Aryeh Neier is president emeritus of the Open Society Foundations. He was president from 1993 to 2012. Before that, he was executive director of Human Rights Watch, of which he was a founder. Before that he was executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union. Since 2012, he has served as Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Paris School of International Affairs of Sciences Po. His most recent book is The International Human Rights Movement: A History (2012). Neier is the recipient of seven honorary degrees and numerous awards.
