Armed conflict in Sudan broke out in 2003 when two rebel groups, the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) and Justice Equality Movement (Jem), accused the Government of neglecting the region. The African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) alleged that Government forces were responsible for the rape of one boy in 2017 and documented two cases of conflict-related sexual violence involving two boys in 2015.
