Until 2018, Carla Ruta worked as Thematic Legal Adviser at Geneva Call on issues related to sexual violence and gender discrimination, landmines and explosive weapons, and protection of displaced persons. Prior to that, she was Colombia Programme Manager at Geneva Call. She holds a Master’s degree in International Humanitarian Law from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Geneva Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. She has worked as a delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross in countries such as Colombia, the Gaza Strip and Sudan for over seven years. Carla also worked with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs as a Desk Officer in the Human Security Division and as a Legal Advisor in the Directorate of International Law.
